Le Bas de Ranville & Herouvillette

Post by mausmann » Wed Apr 04, 2018 10:47 am

A scenario from the Rapid Fire! Normandy Battlegames book. At last our 21st Pz boys get a run out! First time out for all the vehicles, so it should be a bloodbath all round... :D

Table at start....

From the Allied end...

Image

And German with the 21st awaiting their baptism of fire....

Image

The Germans head off in two directions....,the idea being to drive thru Ste Honoraine Chardonnerette with the Recce elememts and sieze Escoville, and also head for Longueval with half the main body. The other half would again drive thru Ste Honoraine but then head off to drive around the left hand side of The Ring Contour and head for Le Bas de Ranville.

And more support elements arrive...

Overview of the battle as it develops....

Image

The Paras have a fair bit of artillery support including HMS Arethusa, but it is not achieving much so far.

The Germans close on Le Bas de Ranville....

Image

The other half of the Kampfgruppe arrive in Ste Honoraine...

Image

Image

The Pz IV Komps head off around the Ring desperately seeking 17pdrs..... ;)

Image

German SP Arty arrives.....

Image

The Recce elements arrive at Escoville....

Image

The Paras defending Longueval are getting hits, but only light damage so far. and the 6pdr there has been destroyed....

Image

Awaiting those PzIVs....

Image

This is our Arty OP vehicle as we have no "cheesegrater"....

Image

Paras counterattack towards Escoville.....

Image

And the Pack howitzers keep blazing away...

Image

To be continued......

Greatness is not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes in the wind, and sometimes against it, but sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor.

Great looking battlefield and very good pictures in the AAR, only ever played the Para's on this one and my Naval Gunfire Support was somewhat lacking... ended up with the 75mm pack howitzers in direct fire role !
