13 HOURS THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI

Post by Cuckoo » Sun Apr 15, 2018 10:20 am

Here is an AAR for our 20mm table that we build for the HAMBURGER TACTICA this year. For the game we used the SPECTRE OPERATIONS rules and it worked quite well. Enjoy the AAR and feel free to leave comments and critics as well.

Image
The first picture shows an overview of the map, including the mission goals to be achieved for Team A (RED) and Team B (BLACK). In the scenario we played, we deviated a bit from the true story of September 11 in 2012 and deployed the full GRS to relieve the diplomatic outpost.

Image
Insurgents charging the diplomatic outpost.

Image
The task for Team A was to advance across the road to the diplomatic outpost and then secure the terrain. Occurring enemy forces should be neutralized

Image
The task for Team B was to work their way up to the highest point on the map to take a backup position and assist their own forces with covering fire, if needed. Occurring enemy forces should be neutralized.

Image
Chaos on the territory of the diplomatic outpost.

Image
Both teams start from their staging areas on the Shari Al Andalus. Team A does not waste time and moves quickly into the street leading to the outpost. The operators take cover, secure their position and observe what is happening on the road. Many, probably civilian, people are swarming towards the diplomatic outpost. The observed situation is unclear.

Image
Team B starts with the two supporters from the Brigade of 17 February. These move in a southerly direction on the Shari Al Andalus along the walls of the houses standing there.

Image
Team A recognizes enemy forces on the road to the outpost and opens the fire to prevent the attackers from entering the outpost. Team A starts firing and bring the first attackers down. In the general confusion on the road, the attackers cannot locate the shooters nor the direction where the shots come from. The bulk of the attackers continues to storm toward the front gate of the outpost.

Image
Team B climbs over the wall and moves towards their mission goal. The boys from 17 February fail on the first attempt to exceed the wall and remained as a backup on the main road.

Image
In Team A, Rone goes into Overwatch to ensure the team members advance. The outpost attackers are now moving toward Team A as they have an idea from which direction they are being fired. However, before they can clarify the position of their attackers, the operators open the fire precisely and lethally and send several of them to the ground. The Technical with the DshK is turned off by a hit with the grenade gun. Due to the blast wave of the explosion of the 40mm grenade, the driver loses control, the vehicle tilts and burns out.

Image
Team B secures the inner courtyard of the civil compound and waits for the two members of the brigade of the 17 February. These strive to overcome the wall in this round and one manages the hurdle. Again, a security post remains on the other side of the wall.

Image
Team A continues tactical and works towards the mission goal. In the following exchange of fire, the operators again stop some attackers who rush to their position. The insurgents are opening fire on Team A, as they can finally make goals.

Image
Team B is now continuing on its way, as the security guard has also overcome the wall.

Image
The attackers are now trying everything to overwhelm the position of Team A, after the operators have advanced further to the outpost. An attacker comes in contact with Oz. He turns off the attacker in the following melee. All non-melee team members of Team A open the fire and neutralize more attackers. But if an attack goes too smooth, you usually run into a surprise. Armed attackers from the Neighborhood Watch (Group Alidas) emerge from a side street and are in the back of Team A now. In the following firefight, Tig goes down and gets wounded.

Image
Suddenly two armed residents appear at the compound. They were alarmed by the noise in the previous rounds. Tanto and Boon are leaving the compound at this point and going in all-round defense, as they don’t know who will leave the gate next to follow them. The two members of the brigade on 17 February are argument with the owners of the property. A brawl starts scramble and an unwanted firing occurs. At the end one member of the brigade dies and one resident is wounded.

Image
In Team A, Oz takes cover of the injured Tig and Da Silva joins in to help with medical care. Rone continues to fire at the attacking attackers to keep them away from their own position. Out of the corner of his eye, Oz sees an attacker climbing over a wall to attack the team. He stops him with his pistol and then again supports Da Silva in the wound treatment of Tig.
The Alidas group receives a phone call from an unknown party and regrets the shelling of the operator. They just wanted to protect their families and could not detect in the dark whom they were firing at.. This group assures its support in securing the outpost.

Image
Tanto goes in Overwatch and securing Boon's way forward. More residents of the compound appear and verbal battle in the courtyard follows after the shooting.

Image
Tig's protective vest prevented worse, and all operators are back in the fight. Team A continues to move to the outpost, firing with deadly precision to knock out the last remaining attackers on the road.

Image
The two operators of Team B enter the inner courtyard of their target building and cover themselves. In the inner courtyard of the Compound, the hour of fraternization sets in, as all persons still know each other from their common school days. One regrets the firing and the fisticuffs, but this was unavoidable, since they didn’t immediately recognize each other in the dark. The armed residents follow the relatives of the brigade on 17 February and promise further support.

Image
Team A removes the last obstacles on their way and enters the territory of the diplomatic outpost.

Image
The Alidas group cannot follow them so quickly, as they don’t find the key to their vehicle.

Image
At Team B, two gunmen leave the target building and try to attack Tanto and Boon. These dodge the melee and in turn they start pouring bullets into the attackers. After the danger is eliminated, the two occupy the target building.

Image
Team A arrives at the diplomatic outpost.

Image
Team B arrives the backup position.

Superb game and AAR! Looks like a lot of fun too. Many thanx for posting..... thmbs2)
Greatness is not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes in the wind, and sometimes against it, but sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor.
