Re: 6mm Cold War
Some progress on these today. Not the best photos, taken on phone as I was working. I decided to start fitting some aerials to the vehicles, which seems to have worked ok.
The last picture does not do this GHQ model justice (need to dig actual camera out). They are expensive, but fantastic models. The AB of the 6mm world. I may have to buy some at Hammerhead this weekend. Some of the Scotia stuff is sadly a bit rough around the edges.
I have some terrain and a couple of aircraft in the works so will get some pics of those over the next week.
Thanks for looking.

Re: 6mm Cold War
Nice work Greg, and I like the aerials too. It just adds an extra three dimensional edge to the models....
Greatness is not in where we stand,
but in what direction we are moving,
we must sail sometimes in the wind,
and sometimes against it,
but sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor.

Re: 6mm Cold War
Maybe I should sell on my 20mm and go 1/285?.......(relax Fred, it ain’t going to happen.....)
However I am not ruling out some GHQ to take to the odd game.....

Re: 6mm Cold War
Thanks chaps,
I've only getting GHQ for NATO - building the Russian hordes that way would be bankrupting. And some of the newer H&R stuff (the T64bvs above for example) are actually quite nice models.
Chris - the colours are MIG - you'll recall we had a chat about greens for Soviets. 083 - ZASHCHITNIY ZELENO. German stuff is his 087 Gelboliv. For both, black undercoat, base cost, black wash over the top and Iraqi Sand highlights. Nice and quick.

Re: 6mm Cold War
In compensation for the fact I didn't make it Joy of Six to see the big Cold War Commanders game (3 hours for a small show is just too long a drive, and £60 return on the train is ridiculous) I finally summed up the courage to build my Aist class...
A little bit fiddly getting the fan mounts and supports on, and I need to get some plastic discs to stand in for the blades (none in the kit), but otherwise quite an enjoyable little build. You can't really see it in the photos but I've left the air cushion with a satin varnish coat to make it look like a water sheen.
Alarmingly, Scotia has just released these, and I have seen something that suggests they may be doing a Zubr...
Finally, how do we think a 1/700 ship sitting slightly offshore would look with 6mm?

Re: 6mm Cold War
That looks excellent....
I think a 1/700th ship would look fine offshore. It’s the impression that counts. A bit like when using 1/144 scale planes over a 1/72 game, although the scaling is reversed I think it would look fine....

Sorry didn't take my camera- the CWC game was good though- I picked up their flyer if you want a scan of it?chairborne wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 4:54 pmThanks. I'm going to have to find a reason for a long weekend somewhere near Sheffield this time next year...
If you have any pics I'd be pleased to see them - especially the CWC game.

Re: 6mm Cold War
The Cold War Commanders game at Joy of 6 was great fun to be involved with. I took probably the easiest task, a British mixed armour and infantry battalion defending Wesel in 1989. A squadron of Challenger Is in a wood in the centre of the table was a pretty tough nut for the Soviets to crack.
There is a short AAR on my blog (https://sedimentswargameblog.blogspot.c ... -2018.html) and some more photos.
The table set up.
Wesel and environs in 1959.
Wesel in 1973
Wesel in 1989
Brits defending the suburbs of Wesel in 1989
British Fast Air (a pair of Jaguars) streak across the battlefield in front of lots of burning T-80s and BTR-80s.
Cheers, Andy
