Post by 7dot62mm » Mon May 14, 2018 9:11 am

https://www.airfix.com/uk-en/shop/airfi ... ssics.html

Range includes the Churchill, Panzer IV, Panther etc. plus WWI figure sets.

Kind of neat though I have most of these in my stash already :D

That is great, no more inflated ebay prices for a while at least.

Tempting, if they have tidied up the moulds

The absolute gem is the Golden Hind, as it is 1/72. I bought one and put it away in the loft the last time they issued it.

But aren't some of these kits, well, a bit old?
Why would anyone torture themselves with the Airfix Churchill?

Coz it’s fun.... :D
Greatness is not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes in the wind, and sometimes against it, but sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor.

Have just built the Churchill AVLB - those old wheels are a doddle compared to doing an original IBG, UM or ACE kit. Those East Europeans certainly need to learn something from 1970s Airfix & Matchbox master design when it comes to wheels. IBG have finally caught up with their World At War early German releases having one piece track/wheel parts, which is even better.

One trick I have found in such cases, like the old Airfix Churchill, is to leave the spring wheel support piece on the sprue, and glue the wheels in place, then when dry cut the whole off the sprue. Similarly when wheels are in two halves, only cut one set off the sprue, and glue them to their corresponding t'other half whilst it is still on the sprue.
