Rapid Fire British Air Landing Battalion Organization

Post by Trockledockle »

I was looking at the organization for a British Glider battalion in the RF First Supplement book “Unit Organisations for the 1944-45 Campaign in NWE” and saw that there are no Vickers MGs in the listing. I looked around and these were added in early 1944. Is there an updated listing and if so what does it have in it? The Supplement also has a flamethrower, is this listed in an update?

Thanks for your help.

Charles, you should have used Rapid Forces !

The A/L Battalions had two platoons of MMGs , one with Jeeps and one with carts.

I have been trying for years to wheen Colin off of this fixation with flamethrowers, NONE here either.

The very latest Orbat , taken from the latest Arnhem Book, my very own Hardback copy, is as follows,

BHQ CO + 8 with 2 x PIAT and 1 x 2" Mortar
4 Rifle Coy each 8
Supt Coy with 9 1 x MMG, 1 x £2 Mortar, 1 x 6pdr + Jeep tow
GP 10 with 2 x Jeep and Trailer.

Remember that the CO is now a three figure base, making him harder to kill using the multi-base system if you're using it.

Thanks for that Alan. I may buy it next time I see Andy Grubb.

What is the GP with 10 figures and 2 jeeps? I’m guessing that it is a supply platoon with no additional weapons?

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn’t thought of them.
