Re: British jerkin
Any of these Vallejo colours would be right:~
70981 Orange Brown
70940 Saddle Brown
70818 Red leather
And darkened shades of those. down to a Dark Umber. They were mass produced from sheepskin , mostly in the Clarks factory at Street, in Somerset.
The colour varied a lot, so don't worry too much.

Re: British etc 1944 greatcoat
I've certainly considered doing them, but I get the impression that by 1944 they were mostly worn at night rather than in combat , when jerkins and Windproofs were much more common. They were stowed in the Large Pack on the unit transport, to which they seem to have had access when dug in at dusk.

Re: Blackforce Vickers Mk. VI tanks in java
The picture showing the tank on the wrecked dock certainly doesn't look like a desert scheme, but exactly like the KG3/KG4 scheme used in the BEF, and on Home service in the period. It's worth bearing mind that there was a sophisticated paint workshop run by the Royal Ordnance Corps in Abassia barra...

Sorry , I wrote Ebay when I meant Etsy. But there's little to choose between them, since they are both allowing the sale of pirated figures.

Re: are these ab figs?
Yes, Chinese ripoffs, still on Ebay , who do NOTHING about it, despite numerous formal complaints. In fact Ebay make it really difficult to complain with a very pettifogging series of steps you have to go through to make a complaint. I realise the Chinese recognise no copyright law, but you might thi...

Re: Questions about The Royal Post cyber breakdown
I can now send International again from my Post Office; it takes the very patient staff a while to key in all the details, so longer queues, but they can now do it again. It's been possible if you register with Royal Mail online for a little while now, but I would sooner have the exercise and social...

Re: Questions about The Royal Post cyber breakdown
Still unable to send a little parcel to Oz from the UK, apparently because the barcoded labels don't work anymore since the hack. The Royal Mail International were using the same system as the US , I understand.

AB , a review of 2022
AB 2022 review A bit late with this, for which I have to plead illness. I got Covid in November, and am still trying to shake off the after effects. But here's a list of new things now , or soon to be , in the Catalogue, many as the result of requests. Starting with the Napoleonics:~ RUSSIA: 1812 R...

Re: Quick Question, Beret Colour
The Royal Artillery wore " Caps, G.S." also known as the" Cap, Ridiculous" which was a tailored object with a separate headband a bit like a Tam o'Shanter, made from khaki cloth, rather than knitted on a circular frame like a proper beret. They were the same colour as Battledresss.

Re: Pavlov Grenadiers
Oh Dear .
I had long feared that the Fusilier caps v Grenadier caps thing might be more complex than the usual received wisdom for the Pavlovs.
Never mind, I shall Do Something About It.
Nice painting, by the way.

Re: Archer SP gun crew
It's a shame there isn't a plastic kit of the Archer( or for that matter a good modern kit of the various marks of Valentine) otherwise I might have got around to making a crew. Interesting that the winter 1944 photos, which are the ones I think we are discussing, show most of the crews wearing pixie...

Re: 8th Army Painting
If you are using Vallejo, I would recommend 884 Stone Grey with a touch of 976 Buff for the uniforms, which you could even lighten with a little white to show how they bleached, and doing the flesh in something like 929 Light Brown. There were no sunblocks available, and men tended first to burn ( mu...

Re: German Tropical Shirt
Bill, The Luftwaffe had a yellowish sand uniform, which shows very pale in photos, compared with the Army's olive green , which of course bleached paler with wear anyway, though it could appear quite dark when new. To add to the complication of possible shades , Italian and British clothing was also ...

Re: Chinese fakes on eBay
The chief culprit seems to be the outfit called " fashionzon " , and not only have numerous worthy folk complained to Ebay about them ,but some of us have have actually written direct to fashionzon, and even got a reply. But despite sympathetic noises they carry on just as before. Though o...

Re: Imperial Sunset- Iain's 20mm Early War in the Far East
I fear the miscast may be my fault ( the designer's ) rather than Eureka's. When I cast my Fimo originals into metal, a maddening glitch is that any tiny recesses on the figure sometimes trap the RTV casting rubber and tear it off, and create a blob on the metal casting. That looks like what happene...

I'm sorry for the delays in getting these latest new sets out , but the Covid business has meant that Nick and Jack, who do all the making of new moulds, casting and packing work at the AB factory have been near-overwhelmed with orders all year, leaving little time to get new moulds made and their pr...

Re: Iain's WWII Photo Reference Pile...
Mike Starmer's colour chips in his self-published books are invaluable. I use them for mixing my own version of things like KG3 and SCC15 Olive Drab. Some of his Humbrol mixtures to copy them seem a bit over-elaborate sometimes, but it's somehow much simpler with Vallejo, since they do so many more s...

Re: Iain's WWII Photo Reference Pile...
Certainly not in my immediate plans. At present I am doing late War winter GIs, which will take some months before they are on sale. Covid , and the drop in freight flights from UK to OZ has slowed everything down. I do have some Sikhs on the way , in long trousers and shirtsleeves, but nothing yet ...
